Former coastguard of over 40 years, currently the highest paid paper boy in Scotland, renowned expert in the art of lighting and stoking a fire, the man who knows where all the good salmon are, supreme tasting expert of Magners Cider and Smirnoff Vodka, the legend that is Johnny Coastguard.
Many of you will know Johnny, for those who don’t he will always be found on his famous stool in the corner of the bar, quite often passing on his wisdom with the experience gained over the years. Like Albert our Johnny is a creature of habit, arriving daily at the back of 4 (unless he gets a lift) and departing normally around 6.45 for the bus home, it is worth noting that not always does he get home on the bus, on the odd occasion some drivers have asked him to depart early, but we won’t go into that. On a Saturday it is slightly different, he has no papers on a Sunday so leaving time can be anything between 6.45 and closing,
Johnny is like the oracle when it comes to local knowledge (he is not the only one though) but if any visitors to the area need enlightening in regards to history, the boats pictured throughout the bar, the ways of the past, life in the coastguard or where to “acquire” a good salmon or sea trout, then feel free to ask Johnny, and an hour later you will have your answer.
Remember…..if you are here and sat in the corner…..he does like his stool (just saying), oh and he also loves a tune on the jukebox, feel free to put in a pound and turn the volume up.
